Alfred S Gray of Pasadena, Maryland went Home to be with his Lord peacefully on Wednesday July 10 at 8:45 am. Alfred was born on February 27, 1937 to Herbert and Josephine Gray of Masonsville (Baltimore) Maryland. Later the family moved from Masonville to the Venice on the Bay area of Pasadena, Maryland. In September of 1962 he married Kay Shaw of Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania. They were married for 59 years until her passing in November of 2021. They are survived by two children, Andrew Paul Gray of Middle River, MD. and Sharon Lynn (Gray) Jones of Linthicum, MD. They are also survived by 6 grandchildren: Melanie (Jones) Sochor, Leo Gray, Ryan Jones, Kendall Gray, Noelle Gray and Charlotte Gray, and 4 great grandchildren.
He attended and graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1956 where he played on both the varsity basketball and baseball teams.
After high school he was drafted into the army, serving 2 years at Fort Bliss, Texas. After his service in the army he worked in the masonry field in and around Baltimore, first as an apprentice, then bricklayer, foreman and estimator with the Sorenson Masonry company. In 1972 Alfred and a Sorenson co-worker struck out on their own and founded Carson & Gray, Inc. He became sole owner upon Mr. Carson’s retirement. He successfully ran the company until his retirement in 2021. Carson & Gray, Inc. is still in operation today.
Alfred attended and was an integral part of the Brooklyn Bible Chapel since he was 3 weeks old. He attended Sunday School as a child and as an adult served as an elder since 1970, being officially recognized as such in 1975. He also was the song leader, a preacher, choir director, a teacher at the Baltimore School of the Bible and had a gospel singing group in the 1970’s called “The Chapel Singers”.
His life was devoted to the work of the chapel, dedicating himself in service to the Lord there.
Family and friends are invited to call at the family owned and operated McCully Polyniak & Collins Funeral Home, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road Pasadena, Maryland 21122 on Thursday July 11th and Friday July 12th from 3-5 & 7-9 pm. A Funeral service will be at the Brooklyn Bible Chapel Saturday July 13th at 11 am. Interment private. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Answers in Genesis c/o the Brooklyn Bible Chapel.
