Dr. Anastacio “Archie” Reyes de Castro, III passed away on August 9, 2014 while surrounded by family and friends.
While he had a quiet demeanor, Archie delighted in telling corny jokes and goofy stories. All who knew Archie described him as thoughtful and kind. He had a fondness for wearing bowties, playing his acoustic guitar and bass guitar, and listening to the Beatles. Since he was a child, Archie loved cars -- tinkering with them or racing them. He enjoyed helping others with car issues and was an avid fan of MotorWeek and Car Talk. A resident of Pasadena, MD since 1991, Archie was respected in the community as a dedicated and compassionate physician. He was an active parishioner of Our Lady of the Chesapeake Catholic Church and a member of the Joy in the Spirit prayer group, Our Lady of Fatima prayer group, and the Knights of Columbus.
Archie was born on June 17, 1952 in Minnesota and later returned to the Philippines where he grew up and completed his schooling. It was at the Universidad de Santo Tomas Medical School that Archie met Dina, and in 1977, they graduated together. In 1979, the married couple moved to Maryland for Archie’s residency. After two years of internal medicine at St. Agnes Hospital, Archie moved to the University of Maryland Hospital to specialize in Neurology, EMG, and nerve conduction velocity. Archie served as lead of EMG at Baltimore Washington Medical Center (North Arundel Hospital) until 2000 and kept a private Neurology practice from 1986 until 2014.
Beloved husband, father, physician and friend, Archie will be deeply missed. He is predeceased by his father, Dr. Constante de Castro and brother, Dr. Charles de Castro. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Maria “Dina” de Castro, M.D.; three children, Carina, Carla, and Christian; his mother, Dr. Luisita de Castro; and sister, Dr. Caridad Fernando.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Chesapeake Catholic Church located at 8325 Ventnor Rd, Pasadena, MD 21122. A celebration in the church’s Gathering Place will follow.
