Barbara Mary Dewar (nee Oktavec), 69, returned to her heavenly home on August 6, 2017. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her life and ultimately gave her peace.
Barbara was born to the late William and Helen Oktavec, in Baltimore, Maryland, on October 11, 1947. She graduated from Catholic High in Baltimore in 1965. From an early age, Barbara was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support. Barbara shared her Christian faith through her work on her international Christian radio show, as an author of several books on faith and healing, and through her Revelations Wisdom Ministry program. Barbara was also a Pastor, Realtor, Registered Nurse, and a Professor of Nursing.
Barbara was blessed with a loving family. She married her best friend, William D. Dewar, Esq on August 18, 1968, in Baltimore, Maryland. Barbara and Bill raised their two children with patience, discipline and humility. She and the children spent many fond summers in Ocean City, Maryland and traveling the United States and the world. From the very beginning, she dedicated her children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the gospels.
Barbara was a nurse at heart. She always wanted to help others. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator.
Barbara is survived by her husband, William; her daughter Mary Beth Heath; her son William (Billy) Anthony; her grandchildren Marty Heath, Noah Heath, and Sammy Heath; and her brother, Dr. William Oktavec.
The viewing for Barbara will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. on August 10th at McCully-Polyniak Funeral Home, P.A. in Pasadena, Maryland. The funeral will occur on August 11th, at 9:00 a.m. at Calvary Chapel International Worship center. Barbara will be laid to rest at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn Park, with a reception to follow at Snyder’s Willow Grove. Pastors Shawn Murphy and Francis Duodu will officiate the service. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home or, in lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be sent to the Revelations Wisdom Ministries at PO BOX 218, McHenry, Md. 21541-0218 http://www.rwmin.org
