Catherine Sterling

April 6, 1927 — August 11, 2016

Catherine Mary Sterling (Holman), devoted wife of the late Henry D. Sterling Jr., peacefully departed from life surrounded by her loving family on August 11, 2016, at 89 wonderful years of life. Catherine was the beloved Mother of the late George L. Sterling, (wife Lorraine D.) and Catherine “Fuzzy” Oswald (husband Robert “Oz”). She’s the cherished Grandmother of Catherine Northcraft, (husband Kent), Vincent “Jimmy” Oswald, (wife Kim), the late Robert Oswald, Jr., Diane Brinkley, and George Sterling, Jr. (wife Rhonda). She’s the treasured Great-Grandmother of Katie (husband Adam), Stephie, Jessie, Grady, Bobbie, William, Emma, Nathaniel, Clayton, John, Chloe, Dulayne, and Logan. She’s also the dear GreatGreat-Grandmother of Kaelin, Irelin, Brynly, Nolan, Adelyn, and Kellan. Surviving siblings include her sister Anna Mae “Aunt Girlie” and two brothers Frankie and Joseph (wife Bonnie). As a young woman, Catherine worked at the Sane Factory making assorted nets and in 1957 purchased the well-known Sterling’s Tavern in Locust Point, which is still in operation. She is also the owner of several real estate and business ventures. While attending Seton High School, she met and married the love of her life, Henry. She was a robust fan of the Orioles and the Ravens, and watched them faithfully. She read the newspapers daily, liked to play cards and bingo, watch Jeopardy and Wheel-of-Fortune, and spend time with her family. She was kind-hearted and charitable, opinionated and blunt, and could be counted on to always speak her mind. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends, and the community she served. Family and friends are invited to call at the family owned and operated McCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road (PASADENA) on Friday August 19, 2016 from 3-5 and 7-9 PM, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday August 20, 2016 at 11 AM. Interment Cedar Hill Cemetery.
