Corbett Baker

September 26, 1944 — April 2, 2016

Corbett Elvin Baker, 71, Buddy - Poppy – BamBam September 26, 1944 – April 2, 2016 Buddy was born in Hazard, Kentucky and moved to Maryland when he was four years old. He spent his childhood in Pasadena with his parents, brothers, aunts, uncles and many cousins. When he was a teenager, it has been said he went through cars like Grant through Richmond. Whether it was painting his car with a paint brush and roller or sneaking friends into the drive-in movies in the trunk of his car, Buddy had a car story to tell you. Who hasn’t heard how he tried everything to get his Mercury to start and when he couldn’t, with typical Buddy perseverance…he pushed it into the pond! Thank goodness his father came home from work and told him not to drive the Mercury until he put gas in it! He took her to home to meet his family for dinner one night and introduced her to PopPop’s Beans. He talked about his shock when she took him home to her family and he found an entire crab in his soup! That was the beginning of his life with his angel, Dee. They were young and in love and thought 19 and 17 were the right age to get married. Ups and downs and even sideways, their marriage gave them a daughter and a son and a family of their very own. For 42 years, they were inseparable, and when she lost her battle to cancer in 2005, sadly, Buddy lost his own will to live. He often said the day he met Dee was the day he met a real live angel. For Buddy, their marriage has been 53 years and will never end. Buddy was a plumber, like his father and brothers, and he was always proud of his job and his good name. He worked long hard days and finally became a Master Plumber. He worked for others, he worked for himself, but he always worked. He passed on many lessons to many people, but always said the two most important rules of plumbing were….Measure twice, cut once, and Hot’s on the left, cold’s on the right, crap runs downhill and payday’s on Friday! Buddy loved camping and could often be found sitting at the picnic table or campfire ring reminiscing about family camping trips. Like the time he left the camping poles for the tent at home. All the men went into the woods and cut down small trees to hold the tent up. That night there was a big storm and the next morning as he climbed out of the tent, he realized everyone else’s tents had not made it through the night standing up….but Fort Buddy’s stick poles had held strong! Or the time he took a rope and tied it to the pipe rack on his pickup truck and then across the stream so the kids could have an original “zip-line”. He also loved road trips with his beloved angel Dee (before and after her death!) riding right beside him. He loved teaching his grandchildren how to drive. They would start out driving the loop around Marley Station Mall. But sometimes….they might just end up on a road trip to Tennessee! Whether it was “Buddy” the family man, or “Poppy” the grandfather, or “BamBam” the plumber, if you met him you were sure to walk away with either a new friend or a story to tell…and if you were lucky….you might just get both. Buddy was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Dolores (Dee) Joan Meyers Baker, his parents Henry & Dorothy Baker, grandparents John and Martha Baker, and Israel and Sarah Napier. He is survived by his daughter Laura L. Baker (Brent Embleton) of Glen Burnie, MD, and son Christopher D. Baker (Sherri) of Seaford, DE. Grandchildren, Jennifer (Brendon) Reed, Corbett (Amanda) Snyder, Oliver (Kara Scherba) Snyder, Andrew Snyder, Lisa Snyder, Christopher Snyder, Benjamin Snyder & Emily Snyder. Tiffany (Ryan) Molz, Ashley Baker, Melissa Baker. Great-Grandchildren, Caleb, Noah & Sawyer, Danny, Kayleigh & Brody, Dakota, Yahaira. His brothers, Kenneth Baker of Frederick, MD and Fred & Virginia Baker of Hedgesville, WV. Many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces & great-nephews, and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the family owned and operated MCCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road PASADENA on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at which time a memorial service will be held.
