After a long struggle with leukemia, Curtis B "BARRY" Vickery, 66 died November 17, 2010 with his family by his side in Baltimore, Maryland.
Curtis is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara A Vickery (Nee Davis); two loving children and their spouses, Beth and Frank Mundy, Ian and Jennifer Vickery; three cherished grandchildren, Isabelle and Jillian Vickery, Madison Mundy; two devoted brothers and their spouses, Trenton and Joyce Vickery, Duke and Carol Vickery; and many caring nieces and nephews.
Curtis was a beloved teacher for 37 years in the Baltimore City School System. He was President of the Baltimore Round Table of American Military History and served on the board of the Maryland Military Historical Society. Curtis was an avid military historian and was a recipient of the State of Maryland Distinguished Service Cross for his contributions to the Maryland Army National Guard and the Maryland Military Historical Society. Curtis taught Sr. High Sunday School for 10 years at the Brooklyn United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer and a devoted Orioles fan.
Curtis was known for his genuine character and always treated others with the utmost dignity and respect. He was a role model for the hundreds of students he taught and always opened up his heart to those in need. Curtis had a great sense of humor and applied it with grace to any situation. Most of all, he was a family man who enjoyed being with family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to call at the MCCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 237 East Patapsco Avenue Baltimore, Maryland 21225 (BROOKLYN) for the viewing on Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral services will be held at the Brooklyn United Methodist Church, 3701 4th Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21225 on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 11 A.M. Interment will follow the funeral service at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
