Life Legacy


Dolores "Dee" Valenda Appleton, 89, of Pasadena went th her heavenly home on November 8, 2013. Born in Sheridan, Pa on June 21st 1924. Her family moved to Brooklyn, Md in 1942, Pasadena in 1948, Puerto Rico in 1953, Pasadena in 1957, Gambrills in 1969, retired to Florida in 1985, then returned to Pasadena in 1988. She was preceeded in death by her loving husband, Henry Deville Appleton, parents Michael & Minnie Valenda, sister Dorothy "DeeDee" Uhler, brother-in-law George "Jack" Uhler.
She graduated from Porter Township High School in Tower City, PA., and Baltimore Business College.
She worked at Bethlehem Steel and after years of service retired from Department of Defense. She was a devoted Christian, a member of Pasadena United Methodist Church and previously a member and Sunday school teacher at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Brooklyn. With love, she devoted her life helping and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She was very energetic, focused, always active, enjoyed being a homemaker and keeping in touch with family and friends.
She was a sports enthusiest and enjoyed swimming, tennis, riding bicycles, horseback riding, Big Band Music and dancing at Palace Hall , flying planes and traveling. She loved her pets, wild birds and animals. She enjoyed playing cards and board games. She was an artist, enjoyed painting, crocheting, playing accordian and especially playing the piano. But more than this she loved supporting and cheering on her Grandsons at their basketball, baseball and football games. She enjoyed sharing and telling stories of her family heritage and how life was during WW II era. Her favorite book was the Bible.
Dolores is survived by her two daughters, Michael Ann Goff (Bill Anderson), Sherrie Lee Fraley (Jimmy) of Pasadena; step-son Henry "Hank" Appleton (Mary) of Massachusetts, and her dearest longtime friend George Pinchorski of Williamstown, PA.; niece Dian Uhler and great niece Lisa Long of Glen Burnie; 4 grandsons, Aubrey Goff, Jeff Fraley (Christina Mirro), Jason Fraley (Kristen), James Fraley (Marjorie) of Pasadena. 4 Great-grandchildren, Tyler M. Grieb of Annapolis, Kaiden, Gavin and Keira Fraley of Pasadena; Sister and Brother-in-law Elva Mae and Amos Carr of Crownsville and many relatives and dear friends.
Because Dolores gave generously to many various organizations and charities you may make a memorial contribution in lieu of flowers to the charity of your choice.
Family and friends are invited to call at the family owned and operated MCCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road, Pasadena, MD on Thursday from 7-9 PM and Friday from 12 noon to 2 PM, at which time funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Interment to follow at Glen Haven Memorial Park.
