Doris Larue Shaneor

August 21, 1937 — March 5, 2025

Doris Larue Shaneor died peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of Wednesday, March 5, 2025. She was 87. Doris is survived by her four children, Rebecca Shields (David) of Pasadena, Maryland; Sandra Rosenberger (Brian) of Columbia, Maryland; Beth Ainsworth (Thomas) of Pikesville, Maryland; and Mark Shaneor (Barb) of Pasadena, Maryland; one brother, Richard Kelbaugh of Bayview, Michigan; seventeen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edith Eva and Ralph Marr Kelbaugh, and John Luther Stonesifer; a brother, Gregory Marr Kelbaugh; and one grandchild, Katherine Elizabeth Shields. A life-long resident of Maryland, Doris graduated from the Samuel Ready School for Girls in 1955. She then attended Salisbury State Teachers College (now Salisbury University), where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1959. She would later go on to earn her Master of Education (1987) and subsequently, complete another thirty credit hours beyond her Master’s, in the Administration and Supervision of Elementary and Middle Schools at Towson University. She spent the first four of her 25 year career as an educator, teaching fourth grade at Woodmoor Elementary School in Baltmore County. The majority of her career was spent in the Anne Arundel County Public School system where she held many roles over the years, from classroom teacher, to math resource teacher with Title I/Chapter I, to administrator. Although she retired in 2001, Doris continued to serve the school system for several more years as a substitute administrator, long-term substitute teacher in the classroom, and as a volunteer at Quarterfield, Rippling Woods, and Jacobsville Elementary Schools. A 50-year resident of Glen Burnie, Doris loved cats and watching the birds visit her many bird feeders. She was an avid crafter, often making gifts of her works in the form of crocheted blankets and cross-stitched birth announcements, verses and scenes for members of her family and others. She also loved to sew and enjoyed making clothes for her younger grandchildren. In her later years, she most enjoyed coloring intricate pictures and sharing them with anyone and everyone around her. Doris was a very popular resident with the staff of the senior living facility where she spent the last two years of her life, and is remembered by them as a sweet and caring soul that loved having conversations and did not hesitate to share her opinions. She will be remembered by her family as a loving mother and grandmother, who always worked hard and did her best to ensure her family was well cared for. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
