Edward Lee Hepner, Jr, 24 years old, of Pasadena, Maryland, passed away March 25th, 2017, due to complications from Type 1 Diabetes. He was born June 20th, 1992, in Alexandria, Virginia, a son of Wendy Ashley and Edward Hepner, Sr. He attended Piedmont Christian School in Virginia, and played on both the basketball and soccer teams. He graduated from Chesapeake High School in 2011 where he was a member of the Junior Varsity (JV) Football Team, as well as JV and Varsity Basketball teams. Following graduation, Eddie attended Marine Mechanic Institute (MMI) in Orlando, Florida, and subsequently moved to Fort Myers Beach, Florida, before returning home to Pasadena to live close to his family.
Eddie was very caring and loved his family. He enjoyed spending time with his family playing games, being outdoors, cook-outs and corn hole. At a young age, he had a love for boating, crabbing and fishing on the Chesapeake Bay. Eddie’s one passion was basketball! He was a huge sports fan – his favorite teams were University of North Carolina (UNC) Tarheels (basketball), University of Michigan Wolverines (football), Washington Wizards, Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Orioles.
Eddie is survived by his parents, Wendy Ashley and Edward Hepner Sr.; his older sister, Laura Jahnigen and his brother-in-law Justin Jahnigen, and his younger sister, Samantha Hepner; and his extended family James “Smitty” Smith, Jr., Rose and Victoria Smith. He is also leaves his grandparents Annette “Anne” Shepard and Lloyd Bennett. He is also survived by his uncle Richard “Rick” Ashley, Jr. and Aunt Andrea Glosser; aunt Suzanne and Uncle Alfie Butler, and cousins Evan and Jackson Butler; and Great Uncle Lawrence “Larry” and Aunt Linda Shepard.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations be made for diabetes camp scholarship through Diabetes Destiny. Checks can be made payable to Diabetes Destiny (memo: Scholarship Fund-Eddie Hepner) and mailed to 15106 Black Ankle Road, Mt. Airy, MD 21771. Donations can also be made online through www.diabetesdestiny.org with special instructions to the “Scholarship Fund-Eddie Hepner”.
Family and friends are invited to call at the family owned and operated McCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road (PASADENA) on Friday April 28, 2017 from 1-3 PM. Where a memorial service will be held at 3 PM. Interment Private.
