Edward A. Looper III, 71, of Eagle Hill in Pasadena, Maryland passed away on June 6, 2024 at Hospice of the Chesapeake in Pasadena, Maryland. Ed was predeceased by his parents Edward A. Looper Jr. and Beverly G. Looper as well as his sister Dana L. Looper.
Ed is survived by his closest friend and confidant Elaine D. Hall of Ocean Pines, Maryland.
When Ed was a member of the Gibson Island Club, he exceled in sailboat racing winning all the major awards multiple times. He sailed from Gibson Island to Nova Scotia and back with friends: Dave Baker, Alec Gratham, Ross Adams, and Charlie Bagley.
Later, Ed was proud to have earned his Captain's License and enjoyed cruising the Magothy River, the Chesapeake Bay, and along the Intercoastal Waterway.
In the early years, Ed worked at Madison Opticians in Baltimore, Maryland which was founded by his father. He soon moved on to operating heavy equipment and then became an Ironworker. One of his many jobs was the construction of Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
For many years the Looper Family allowed Anne Arundel County use of some of their land as an athletic field on North Shore Road which became known as Looper's Field.
Later, that land which had been used for many years by the county was sold to Anne Arundel Country for continued use as an athletic field. Thus, preventing any residential development on that land.
Eventually, Ed became the sole owner of Eagle Hill and surrounding property. Eagle Hill stands proudly as the highest natural point in Anne Arundel County. Ed worked tirelessly to maintain the property in its natural state.
He ensured that his beloved Eagle Hill and its natural beauty be preserved for generations to come.
