Elizabeth Hildt

ELIZABETH ANN HILDT "LIBBY" on June 17, 2015. She is survived by loving daughter Ann E. Reed; devoted granddaughter Monica Campos and dear great-grandchildren Rachel and Danielle.
Mrs. Hildt spent most of her life in Brooklyn Park. She was born in Harmans, Maryland to Frances and Ebbert Spurrier in 1923. She attended Linthicum Elementary and Glen Burnie High School. After graduating she attended Peabody Institute briefly before attending and graduating from State Teachers College of Towson with a Bachelors of Science in Education in January 1944.
While at Towson she met Willard Russell Hildt who would eventually become her husband. They married in April 1944. They were blessed with daughter Ann Elizabeth Reed who was born in 1946. Mr. Hildt passed away in 1975. Mrs. Hildt began teaching at Brooklyn Elementary (School 203) as a Kindergarten and First Grade Teacher and remained there for 27 years before retiring in 1980. She was known for always starting the day with a hug for every student that came through the door. Her granddaughter and daughter both remember many instances of running into past students who would recognize Mrs. Hildt with fond memories of being in her classroom. Upon retiring she traveled with her mom and friends in the U.S. and remained very busy. Mrs Hildt was always the first to volunteer and would never say no to a request for help. People who knew her said it was her unselfish devotion, dedication and compassion that made her efforts so meaningful.
She received the Anne Arundel County Most Outstanding Volunteer Award in 2002.
In 2005 she was inducted into the Maryland Senior Citizen Hall of Fame for her outstanding volunteer contributions and simultaneously received the prestigious GERI Award for extraordinary humanitarian community service.
Throughout her life she was an active member in many organizations and clubs, holding many different positions. She was a member of the Freestate Daylilly Society, Rose Society, Camelia Society, Orchid Society, Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Homemakers Club, later called the Brooklyn Heights Women's Club. She was actively involved in the Brooklyn Heights Improvement Association, Northern District Police Community Relations Council, and the Garden Club of Brooklyn.
She was always busy but said she wouldn't be happy if she wasn't. She will be remembered as always smiling and being friendly to everyone she met. She will be dearly missed by all. Her advise to others "Education is something no one can take from you" and "Always take time to listen to others."
Family and friends are invited to call at the family owned and operated McCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road (PASADENA) on Sunday from 3-5 & 7-9PM. Where a funeral service will be held on Monday at 12PM. Interment Glen Haven Memorial Park.
