Life Legacy

Horney, Ella Elizabeth (nee Goldstraw), 95, of Pasadena, Maryland, went to be with the Heavenly Father on March 31, 2013.

One of 14 children, she was born to the late James and Mary Goldstraw on May 12, 1917, in Baltimore, Maryland. She married the late Calvin Aaron Horney, Sr. on October 21, 1933. They lived together in Baltimore before relocating to Pasadena in 1945

Ella worked as a lunch lady at Northeast High School during the 70s and 80s. Her name tag read “Grandma”, a nickname given to her by the students because she treated them all as if they were her grandchildren.

Ella was a member of the Anne Arundel Chapter of the Severn Belles. She enjoyed traveling, cooking for her family, painting ceramics, crocheting, sewing and reading in her spare time. She was a feisty woman—as tough as nails, yet tenderhearted.

She is survived by Janice E. Squires of Pasadena and Calvin A. Horney, Jr. (Skip) of Bath, NC. She is also survived by her brother George Goldstraw of Glen Burnie, and her sisters Anna Koch of Baltimore and Jane Sevier of Pasadena. She was a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Calvin A. Horney, Sr. and her two sons Edward A. Horney and Raymond A. Horney, Sr.

Friends and family are invited to call at the family owned and operated MCCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A. (PASADENA) on Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM. Where a funeral service will take place on Thursday at 11 AM. Interment to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake in memory of Ella Horney.
