Eugene Sambataro was born on March 6, 1925 in Washington, DC to Anthony and Mary Sambataro. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 aboard the U.S.S. Dobbin, a destroyer tender. He was deployed to the South Pacific during World War II and served as a machinist with the rank of Petty Officer.
After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Navy, Eugene returned to Washington, DC where he partnered with his brother, Julian Sambataro, running a sandwich shop in the old central market in Washington, DC during the 1950s. From the late 1950s onward, Eugene worked for several federal government agencies including the Bureau of Engraving and Printing as a machinist.
Eugene is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Caterina Sambataro, along with his daughter, Anna Sambataro, son Anthony Sambataro, grandchildren Marisa, Laura, and Daniela, and great-grandson Matthew.
Family and friends are invited to call at the family owned and operated McCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road (PASADENA) on Thursday February 4, 2016 from 9-9:30 AM. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Chesapeake Catholic Church 8325 Ventnor Road Pasadena, Maryland 21122 at 10AM. Interment Crownsville Veteran Cemetery.
