G. Susan Shacklock

We celebrate the life of Susan Shacklock, 85, of Glen Burnie, MD, who died peacefully while surrounded by her loving family on November 1, 2013. Married 64 years, she was the beloved spouse of Reginald M. Shacklock , who died on November 2, 2010.
She was born on November 16, 1927, in Baltimore. MD, the youngest of the five daughters of Anton and Mary Boehm. She attended Sacred Heart of Jesus School in Baltimore.
During her early teenage years, Mrs. Shacklock attended Cooks Dance Studio, and later became employed as a dance instructor. In 1939, she and her partner performed a tap dance at the Hippodrome Theatre, sharing the stage with Roy Rogers and his singers. A review in the local newspaper said they “carried off the honors for the best performance.” She was employed as a bookkeeper while her husband was stationed in the Navy in Virginia and for several local businesses when she moved back to Baltimore and later to Glen Burnie. She worked as accountant for Rock Hill Construction Company, Pasadena, MD and then became a Senior Volunteer for the Glen Burnie Social Security Office. While working she also devoted time to helping her sisters care for their aging mother. When she retired in 2008, she enjoyed her remaining years spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
Throughout her life, Mrs. Shacklock was an active volunteer. She was member of the Ladies of the Sodality of the Church of the Good Shepherd, and was especially involved in fundraising activities. She had many good friends that attended daily mass with her and shared in her love of prayer and friendship. She delivered Meals on Wheels within her community and regularly took elderly church friends who could not drive to the store and church. She enjoyed cooking during the holidays for her large family, visiting her husband’s sister Esther and husband Harry in Virginia, and taking trips with her husband in their RV. Her hobbies included taking pictures and videos of her family and friends, watching Little House on the Prairie and putting together puzzles. She also loved all animals—especially her dogs Gabriel and Muffin. Surviving are four children; three sons, and daughter-in-laws, Wayne and Charlotte Shacklock, Michael and Barbara Shacklock, Richard and Linda Shacklock, and her daughter, Patricia Jones. Two sons passed away at young ages; Robert and Dennis Shacklock. She had eleven grandchildren, Dennis W. Shacklock, Dean Shacklock, Tracy Hunnicutt, Michael Shacklock, Jr., Christopher Shacklock, Anthony Shacklock, Nicholas Shacklock, Michelle Bennett, Shane Shacklock, Kevin Shacklock, and Rebecca Jones, who passed away in 2011. She had nine great grandchildren, Caitlynn, Megan, Emily, Gracie, Colton, Roberto, Sophia, Nicholas and Valerie. She also had several loving nieces and nephews she was close to from her and her husband’s families.
She is survived by one sister, Mary Delores Sowinski. She was predeceased by three of her sisters and their spouses; Edna and Bill Ott, Dorothy and Stanley Mack, and Rita and Roy Lantz.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the family owned and operated MCCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road PASADENA on Tuesday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM A funeral Mass will be held at Good Shepherd Church on Wednesday at 9 AM with Father Tony Adawu officiating. Interment will follow the Mass at Crownsville Veterans Cemetary
