George Thomas Dawson of Baltimore City, Maryland left this world on February 14, 2025 to be with his beloved wife of 61 years, Dawn, in heaven. A beloved family man, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. George was born on May 7, 1934, and grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. George served in the Coast Guard for 25 years and retired as Chief. Traveling the world with the Coast Guard is how he met the love of his life, Dawn, in Baltimore Maryland. George and Dawn were married on April 4, 1959. George also had a very successful 25-year career as a Baltimore City Firefighter and retired as a Captain in the Fire Department.
Taking care of his family was his passion. There were times when George worked 3 jobs so Dawn could stay home to care for their children. George also welcomed his mother-in-law into their home and helped Dawn care for her for over 18 years. Both George and Dawn were very involved with their children’s schools. George was the president of the PTA where both he and Dawn organized and participated in many school events. Later in life George renewed his interest in the Morse Code which he became proficient in while in the Coast Guard. Even at the age of 90 you could still catch George practicing his letters.
George is survived by his children, Edward, Mary, Theresa, Christine and Thomas and their spouses Debbie, David, Barry and Sandy. Grandchildren, Edward Jr., Lindsay, Sylvester, Clara, Danielle, Robin and Greatgrandchildren, Roman, Makayla, Corey, Brandon and Jesse
