He is survived by Son David Nolan and his wife Wendy. Pop-Pop, as he was known, will be dearly missed by his Grandchildren, Tyler and Danielle Nolan.George grew up in South Baltimore, where he met Betty. They were married and moved to Pasadena in 1975 and lived in the same home for 47 years. George was a veteran, having served as a jet fighter mechanic in the U.S. Air Force, the Air Force Reserves, and the Maryland Air National Guard. He retired in 1988 after 14 years, as an officer, with the Baltimore City Fire Department Maintenance Division. George and Betty have been members of Our Lady of the Chesapeake Catholic Church since it was founded in the Bodkin Auditorium.
He came from the city, but he loved the water, especially family vacations to Ocean City. He loved time on the beach or the boat, where he enjoyed fishing and crabbing. His favorite food was seafood, like steamed crabs and fresh fish, especially if they were caught on the family boat.
George was proud of his Irish heritage, having been born on a White Star ocean liner, named "Georgic", that was carrying his mother from Ireland to New York. He knew the words and sang along to many old Irish drinking songs. Family was very important to George. He was the character that gave the family many funny moments to laugh about, especially during the Ocean City vacations. Nothing meant more to Betty and George than being Mimi and Pop-Pop to Tyler and Danielle. Nothing was too good for their grandkids and even a quick visit meant at least gas money!
We will remember him for many things, his ability to fix anything, the way he was always ready and willing to lend a hand, but more than anything for his sense of humor, He loved to make everyone laugh, usually with the same old jokes. He was very important to us. It is hard to say goodbye.
Loving Husband, Dad, Mr. George, and Pop-Pop, you will truly be missed, but we are happy that you and Betty are together again. We Love You!
