Howard “Has” Thomas Sachs
June 28, 1935- February 24, 2013
“Has” passed away at the Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD at the age of 77, due to complications brought on from Alzheimer’s. “Has” was born and raised in the Westport section of Baltimore City to the late Howard and Hazel Sachs. He spent his adult life raising his family in Pasadena, MD. He was married to Jean Sachs in May 23,1964 till her death on Dec. 10, 1999. He is survived by: His children, Tair Swepston, David Sachs, Andrew Sachs and Steven Sachs, his grandchildren Bryan Sachs, Derek Sachs and Meredith Sachs, brothers Raymond Sachs and Robert Sachs and sister Florence Ford.
A 1953 graduate of Southern HS in Baltimore, MD, Has was a standout three sport athlete at Southern. He was an all-city third baseman and played on the prestigious Leone’s summer baseball travel team coached by Walter Youse. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955-1959. Spent two years at the University of Maryland. He was an active member of the Pasadena community as a coach for the Lake Shore Youth Athletic Association in baseball and basketball and also served as Director of the Lake Shore Youth Association. “Has” worked for the Crown Cork and Seal Corporation as a regional account manager for 39 years and was a member of the Fleet Reserve Club in Annapolis.
He loved spending time with family, friends and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. An avid Baltimore Colts/Ravens and Orioles fan, Has also loved fishing, playing cards and trips to the Caribbean Islands with his late wife. Loving father, grandfather and family patriarch he has left an indelible mark with his family and in the community. His memory will live on and cherished by all that he came in touch with.
Viewings will be held for one day from 3-5pm and 7-9pm on Thursday, February 28th a funeral service will take place at 5pm at the family owned and operated McCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road in Pasadena. Online condolences may be sent to mccullyfuneral.com
