Brooks, On January 19, 2019 James R beloved husband of Elizabeth R. Brooks, father to Robert J. Brooks (spouse Molly E.) and John M. Brooks (spouse Angela D.) Grandfather to Nathan W., Fletcher J., Nikolas D., Easton A. and brother Richard D. Brooks.
Born in Rochester, NY January 21, 1945, James was 73 years old and valiantly fought a long battle with heart disease. In Rochester he and his brother Richard were known as the "Ayer Street Avengers" playing a ruthless brand of yard-rink hockey and defending their beloved brother Don who passed in 2000. A veteran of the US Air Force 1963-1967 he served in Turkey and Crete and began a career in signals intelligence in the U.S. Department of Defense that would last nearly 43 years with another 5 years doing contract work. His career took him all over the world to serve and protect US interests in the Cold War against the Soviet Union and the War on Drugs. Lover of birds, hater of squirrels, he had many interests and hobbies including gardening, fishing, wood turning and collecting gemstones and artwork. While he was known to risk life and limb as an amateur lumberjack and had a particular passion for firewood, but enjoyed the time with his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth, children and grandchildren the most. A veteran of the Cold War, he knew the score better than most of the numerous threats to US security and worked tirelessly to protect his country, family, and electric bill. Jim will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
