Jerome Francis (“Jerry”) Connell, Sr. passed away on February 10, 2016, at the age of 88. He passed peacefully, due to natural causes, surrounded by friends and family. Jerry was born and raised in Baltimore’s rough and tumble Highlandtown neighborhood. He was the youngest of four brothers and had two younger sisters. He was a decorated soldier in the Army, serving in Germany during the latter stages of WWII, and in combat in the Korean War, where he was commissioned on the battlefield. After graduating from the University of Baltimore, he worked in banking to put himself through the University of Baltimore School of Law, graduating Magna Cum Laude. After serving as a trial magistrate, he enjoyed a successful career in private practice, excelling at trial work. He served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 1967-1970, and thereafter served three terms representing the 31st District in the Maryland State Senate. He was roundly considered by his peers as a consummate parliamentarian and his legislative accomplishments were many. He was a tireless worker who helped countless friends, family members and others in myriad ways. He was a talented singer, an avid horseman and, most of all, a loving husband and father. He was married for 41 years to Mary Patricia (“Patt”) Connell, who passed away in 2005, and he is survived by his children, Martin, Deirdre, Gayle and Romey, his grandchildren, Jamie, Jerry and RJ, and his brother, Calvin.
A mass will be held at 12 noon on Friday, February 19, at St. Jane Frances De Chantal Church, 8499 Virginia Avenue, Riviera Beach, MD 21122.
