Joan Harrington

August 31, 1934 — October 12, 2016

Mrs. Joan “Joanie” Elizabeth Harrington passed away at her home in Pasadena, Maryland on Wednesday, October 12th, 2016 at the age of 82. Joan is predeceased by her parents, John Young and Margaret Elizabeth Sowerby, her brother, John Herbert Sowerby, and her grandchildren, Angela Elizabeth Smith and Michael Victor Harrington.

Joan is survived by her loving husband Robert of 60 years. They were married in Dover, New Hampshire on June 9th, 1956.

Joan was born August 31st, 1934. She attended Dover High School in Dover, New Hampshire and graduated in 1952. She went on to attend the University of New Hampshire and graduated in 1956.

Joan is lovingly remembered by her husband, Robert Joseph; her children, Mark Robert, Margaret Mary, and Maurine Elizabeth; her grandchildren, Sean Patrick, Bradley William, Luke Robert, Timothy Robert, Joseph Mark, and Michelle Elizabeth; and her great grandchildren, Alexandra and Amelia.

Joan worked as a teacher in the Carroll County School system for more than 15 years. She was a gifted artist and enjoyed watercolor painting and embroidery. She left behind many works of art that will be treasured by family and friends for generations.

Family and friends are invited to call at the family owned and operated McCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road (PASADENA) on Friday October 14, 2016 from 6-8 PM. Where a funeral service will be held on Saturday October 15, 2016 at 10 AM. Reverend Ann Harrington of Free Spirit Inclusive Catholic Community of Greenville, NC will be officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, 1900 Pleasant Valley Road South, Westminster, MD 21158.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the National MPS Society, P.O. Box 14686, Durham, NC, 27709 in honor of Angela Elizabeth Smith, Joan’s beloved granddaughter.
