Biography

HEIL JR. , Joseph Burton On October 10, 2011, JOSEPH BURTON HEIL JR., of Pasadena, was born in Washington D.C. (a third generation native Washingtonian) and he grew up and attended schools in Washington D.C. He started his 42 year plus career in the telephone business with the C&P Telephone Company in Washington D.C. in 1942. During WWII, he served in the Army Signal Corps and saw service in the Pacific Theater being discharged in 1946 as a First Sergeant. During the Korean Conflict, his Army Reserve Unit (804th Signal Base Depot) was called to active duty in September 1950 and he served two years at Fort Holabird, MD holding the rank of First Lieutenant. For 16 years, Heil worked for the C&P Telephone Company in Baltimore and its suburbs, returning to Washington D.C., he was coordinator for Audit and Security Operations in the four C&P Telephone Companies. In 1978 he accepted an assignment with AT&T headquarters in the marketing department in Morristown, NJ. Heil retired at the end of 1983 and remained in NJ until 1991 when he returned to live in Annapolis. He settled in Pasadena after marrying Virginia Stein Nash in 1996. Heil was a 1958 graduate of the Loyola Evening College. He also performed as the clown "Lomas" and "Boomer" with a group in Annapolis that visited nursing homes. Heil was also a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He enjoyed tracing his relatives in Germany, the District of Columbia, Baltimore and in Southern Prince Georges County. He is survived by his wife Virginia Nash Heil and four children from his previous marriage to Reble E. Conn: Gary Heil of San Diego, CA, Joseph Brian Heil of Sebastopol, CA, Sharon Anne Thies of Pleasanton, CA, David L. Heil of Allen, TX and a sister Frances Pettinato of Annapolis. There are also eight grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the family owned and operated MCCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME P.A., 3204 Mountain Road (Pasadena) on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Jane Frances Church on Thursday at 10 AM. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Washington D.C.
