Linda Hamstra
June 12, 1939 — July 13, 2014
Linda Lee Hamstra, age 75, was born on June 12, 1939 in Clinton, IA to the late Francis Harty and Darline Harty. She moved to heaven peacefully in her home on Sunday, July 13, 2014. Our loving mother was a thoughtful and giving person. Her love for teaching and nurturing children inspired her to serve as an Elementary School teacher for nearly 30 years and later in retirement as a dedicated teaching aid/volunteer at Lake Shore Elementary. She was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan, never missing a game on TV. She enjoyed reading, cuddling with her best buddy Tucker, spending time with her grandchildren (and oh could she play basketball!), and playing Mexican Train with her close friends, Pat, Lorraine, and Nancy. She was a living example to her family, showing love, peace, kindness and compassion to all who knew her.
She was preceded by her husband David Carl Hamstra. She leaves behind two sons, Carl Alan Hamstra and wife Lisa of Houston, Texas; and Jeffrey Todd Hamstra and wife Karen of Pasadena, MD. She was blessed with three grandchildren who were the love of her life, Lacy, Valyn, and Mya of Pasadena, MD and by a large loving family of brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday July 17, 2014 from 3:00-5:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 11:00am at McCully-Polyniak Funeral Home, 3204 Mountain Road, Pasadena, MD 21122. Pastor Frank Trotter will officiate. Celebration luncheon to follow at the Hamstra’s family home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Linda’s name to Lake Shore Elementary PTA c/o Wina Wood, 4531 Mountain Road Pasadena, MD 21122. Her passion for teaching and the love for the children and staff of Lake Shore Elementary will live on in her memory.
