Smelser, Mary Katherine, on August 1, 2014, Mary Katherine Smelser, (nee Cox), age 75, passed away at home after a brief illness. She was born in Baltimore, Md. on July 2, 1939. She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Edwin A. Cox and Mary V. Cox (nee Buchman), her birth parents, Joseph P. Fleig and Katherine T. Strazynsky, and one sister, Doris V. Selby. Survivors include 3 children: Steven T. Smelser (wife Denise), Tracy A. Smelser and A. Brooke Smelser; 5 grandchildren: Kenneth T. Smelser, Ian B. Smelser, Collin A. Smelser, Danielle L. Brent (husband Lester), Jessica L. Butler (husband Justin), 3 great grandchildren; Hallie I. Lantleme, Jordan W. McBroom and Elias W. Butler; 4 siblings: Dolores M. Leonard, George A. Sheeler, Jr., Geraldine (Pud) Kennedy and Robert M. Sheeler, Jr. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
She was a Glen Burnie High School graduate (Class of '57), a graduate of the Baltimore Business College in 1958 and retired from the State of Maryland employment, after 23 years of dedicated service. Her hobbies included spending time with her family, listening to music, books on tape, playing cards, bingo, yahtzee, bunko, scrabble, crosswords, slot machines and watching old movies on TCM.
Family and friends may gather on Sunday, August 17th at the McCully-Polyniak Funeral Home, P.A., 3204 Mountain Rd., (Pasadena) from 2 to 3:30 PM at which time Funeral Services will be held celebrating her life. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to a charity of your choice in her name.
