Mary Ellen Sokol, 67 of Annapolis, also known as the Admiral to many of her longtime friends and business associates because of her dedication to the business she loved.
On August 29, 2011 Mary Ellen Sokol (nee King), loving wife of Richard Sokol Sr, devoted mother of Jacquelyn Sterling, Marjorie Fraley, and Richard Sokol Jr., all of Pasadena, MD, passed at the Johns Hopkins Hospital from complications following colorectal surgery. She was 67.
Mary Ellen was born in New Haven, Conn., where she married Richard Sokol, in 1964. The couple relocated to Maryland in 1978. She was a manager for 20 years for Sylvania Lighting in Jessup, MD until retirement in 1999. Mary Ellen and her husband loved the water, especially the Chesapeake Bay. They lived together on a motor yacht (The Entertainer) on Spa Creek and founded and ran both Admiral of the Bay and Entertainer Charters, charter boat businesses, in Annapolis.
Sokol also is survived by her sons-in-law George Sterling, Jr. and James Fraley, daughter-in-law Nicole Sokol, six grandchildren and her brother William King.
The family will receive friends on Thursday September 1, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the family owned and operated McCully-Polyniak Funeral Home,P. A., 3204 Mountain Rd Pasadena, MD 21122. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 2, at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of The Chesapeake Parish, 8325 Ventnor Road, Pasadena. Donations can be made in memory of Mary Ellen Sokol to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation or Johns Hopkins Hospital.
