Molly Macfie
December 11, 1923 — April 25, 2016
Molly L. (Lantau) MacFie, a resident of Morningside House of Friendship in Hanover, MD, and formerly of Cumberland, MD, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2016.
She was born December 11, 1923, in Savanna, IL, the daughter of the late Martin Lantau and Blanche (Altenbern) Lantau. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Kenneth (Ken) W. MacFie in 2015, and her brothers, Martin Lantau, Jr. in 1999 and Carl F. Lantau in 2012.
Molly is survived by her daughter Lynn (MacFie) Greenfield and husband, David Greenfield of Chesapeake, VA, and her son, William (Bill) MacFie and wife, Karen (Fletcher) MacFie of Pasadena, MD. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Lauren (Greenfield) Anderson, Matthew Greenfield, Daniel Greenfield, Adriane MacFie, and Ian MacFie, as well as two great-grandchildren, Neal and Michael Anderson.
After high school Molly attended Francis Shimer Junior College for two years and completed her degree at the University of Wisconsin where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. Degree in Home Economics in 1945. After college she moved to Chicago where she was an Assistant Buyer for Carson Pirie Scott & Co. for several years and a Secretary for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for five years.
It was in Chicago where Molly met her husband, Ken. After living in Chicago for several years they moved to Seymour, IN and subsequently to Cumberland, MD in 1962 where they lived for 47 years until 2009.
Molly was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cumberland where she was a Sunday School Teacher for a number of years. She was a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood for over 60 years and a Charter Member Chapter T, Cumberland, MD; member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, University of Wisconsin; and member of National Honor Society, Savanna High School, Savanna, IL.
Molly has requested that her body be cremated. A private family service will be held at a later date. Her final arrangements are being handled by McCully-Polyniak Funeral Home of Pasadena MD.
