She retired from Lever Brothers in 1993 after 35 years and dedicated her remaining time to caring for her family while touching the lives of everyone she met.
Mrs. Russell is survived by her brother, Terry Smith of Shallotte, NC; her daughter, Sherry Russell-Cranford; and two grandchildren, Joshua and Sarah Cranford. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Russel, who died on August 12, 2006. They were married 50 years.
My grandmother was the kindest and most caring person I’ve ever met. Her house was always filled with so much love and throughout my whole life it was my favorite place to be. The memory of her love will live on through us all and even though it feels as if there’s a hole in my heart now I know that I can fill it by being the best person I can be and living by her example. – Josh
Mom-Mom taught me everything I know. She taught me how to love, how to make a house a home, and most importantly taught me that family always comes first. Mom-Mom spent all of her time focused on helping others. She was incapable at putting herself first, though at times I wish she would have. I made sure to remind her that she was the most important thing to me. She was a guardian angel to all of us, the solid rock of our family, and the strongest woman I have ever met. I want to dedicate my life to making her proud, carry on her traditions, and take all that she has taught me everywhere I go. – Sarah
