Ralph Meyls Somerset passed away on August 2, 2012 at Bonell Good Samaritan Center in Greeley, Colorado.
Ralph was born on April 3, 1921, in Baltimore, Maryland to James E. Somerset and Effie Mcyls Somerset. He grew up in Baltimore and graduated from Baltimore City College. He married Elizabeth M. Bailey in 1941, and they had three children-two sons and a daughter.
Ralph worked at Martin Marietta Company in Baltimore and later was transferred to Lockheed Martin in Denver where he worked as a logistics engineer until 1981 when he retired due to health reasons.
In 1961, Ralph married Mary E. Staylor, and the two enjoyed camping and fishing. They traveled widely from east coast to the west, often visiting family along the way. Ralph's keen interest in genealogy led him and Mary to visit family and ancestral sites in Ireland, England, and Germany.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, his brother William (Bill) Downey and stepson James Smith. He is survived by sons Douglas Somerset of San Diego, California; Philip Somerset of Gaithersburg, Maryland; and a daughter, Cecile E. Galczynski of Rockville, Maryland; also stepsons Gerald Staylor of Greeley, Colorado; Frank Staylor of Tampa, Florida, and a stepdaughter Lorraine Saul of Pasadena, Maryland as well as sixteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Viewing and memorial services will be held from 10 AM until 1 PM at the family owned and operated MCCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 237 East Patapsco Avenue, Brooklyn, Maryland on Thursday, August 9, 2012. Interment to follow at New Cathedral Cemetery in Baltimore.
