Robert Oswald, Sr.

September 11, 1946 — August 16, 2017

Robert B. Oswald, Sr. ("Oz"), at 70 years old, acquiesced unexpectedly, with his devoted wife and loving family by his side, on August 16, 2017.

He was the Adoring Husband married 48 years to Catherine (“Fuzzy”) Oswald; the Beloved Father of Catherine Northcraft, (husband Kent), Vincent “Jimmy” Oswald, (wife Kimmy), and the late Robert B. Oswald, Jr.; the Favorite Pop of Kate (husband Adam Sweitzer), Stephie, Jessie, Grady, Bobbie, William, Emma, Nathaniel, and Clayton Northcraft; the Dearest Great Pop-pop of Kaelin, Irelin, Brynly, and Nolan, Adelyn, Kellan, plus a ‘baby-boy to-be’.

He is survived by sister Irene Lucas, sister-in-law Terry Oswald, plus nieces and nephews, and their children. Parents Ralph and Ruth Oswald, plus siblings Carol Murphy and Kenneth Oswald have no doubt welcomed Oz to the sweet hereafter.

Oz was a Mason, having become a 32° Shriner within the Boumi Temple. In 1980, on the Mazell cruiser, he successfully boated a 6 ft. 3 in. White Marlin Washington Canyon weighing in at 50 pounds. Having several odd jobs, Oz retired (after working 40 years with his longshoreman buddies) from the ILA Local 333 in 2008. He became an avid bird watcher, especially of his favorites: The Orioles, and The Ravens. He loved steamed crabs, quietly picking them with meticulous skill. The attention to detail and saintly patience landed him the role of ‘mom’s prep chef’. Every summer of course, he commanded as Grill Master for family barbecues. Traditionally, he enjoyed hunting with his buddies down on the farm around Thanksgiving, often returning with deer--used to make his delicious venison stew. He reveled in singing little ditties unprompted, and doodling artistic character sketches on any paper scraps.

His love for his family was always unconditional and obvious. Forever infamous as the 1968 Ocean City Superman, he was loved by everyone who knew him, and will be sorely missed.

Family and friends are invited to call at the family owned and operated McCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road (PASADENA) on Tuesday August 22, 2017 from 3-5 & 7-9 PM. Where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday August 23, 2017 at 11 AM. Interment Cedar Hill Cemetery.
