It is with profound sadness that the family of Ronald C. Smith, 77, announces his passing on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at his home in Pasadena, MD. He was husband of 57 years to Patsy. He was born on June 16, 1947, and lived in South Baltimore until he was ten years old then moved to Pasadena with his family. Ron enjoyed his daughters, Kimberly and Amy as well as their spouses Brooks and Timothy. Ron loved his bonus son, Zachary, like he was his own. More than anything he loved his grandchildren Ty, Regan, Grady, Devyn and Greyson.
Ron served in the United States Navy. He worked for the Department of Defense for 42 years. He worked until his death for CACI in Fort Meade, MD. Ron’s true passion was on a ball field. An avid sports lover, he coached, umpired, and refereed baseball, volleyball, soccer, basketball, and softball. Most recently he coached his grandchildren’s basketball and baseball teams for Lake Shore. Ron loved tennis, fishing, Ravens football, and Orioles baseball.
Ron was one of the last true gentlemen. He was never too busy to lend a hand to a neighbor, friend or family. He was selfless, soft-spoken, and sincere. He always gave more than he received. He became “Pop” or “Coach” to any child he met.
Ron was preceded in his death by his parents, Charles and Minnie Smith, and his brothers Edwin Vinson and Charles Smith.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Gathering on Saturday March 29, 2025 from 3 to 8 PM. A funeral service with military honors will begin at 4 PM. Donations may be made to the family with the intention of a memorial scholar athlete scholarship to be created.
