Ruth Katherine Ballman Pitcher went to be with her Lord on September 25, 2020 at the age of 95. Beloved mother of Kathleen Edel Pitcher of Richmond, Virginia and Kenneth Edwin Pitcher of Pasadena, Maryland and his wife Margaret Pitcher. She was a devoted grandmother to Brian Kenneth Pitcher and Lance William Pitcher of Pasadena and her great grandchild William Henry Pitcher.
Her legacy stems from her father and mother, William Frederick Ballman and Mary Katherine Ballman of Ballman Avenue, Brooklyn Park, Maryland. Her family were avid church members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church founded by her great grandfather. From a young girl, she was a soloist for her church choir.
Ruth was an artist at heart. She sang at the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore at age 12, and auditioned and accepted with the Tommy Dorsey Band at age 16. She was heroic in many ways having suffered a heart attack at age 16 and miraculously recovering. After spending 1 year on her back, she graduated early from Glen Burnie High School. She wrote poetry and was an expert seamstress designing her own clothes for herself and her family. She was an avid reader and studied Russian language while working for NSA.
She has left a wonderful example of love and devotion to all who knew her. We will miss her greatly.
