Scott Friend

November 7, 1962 — February 8, 2016

Scott Allen Friend was born November 7, 1962 in Washington DC. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Friend. His children Kristina James-Barrass (BJ Barrass). Alanna Boetker (Doug Boetker) Ryan Silvestro (Tiffany Gore) and his grandchildren, Hunter, Isabella, Kylee and Jonathan. His parents, (late) Allen Friend and Janice Friend, his siblings, Pam Stone (Daniel Gum) Deb Jacobs and Kent Friend (Michele Millette)
Scott was born and raised in Beltsville, MD. He had a great childhood in the Calverton community. As a child he loved riding his bike in the Calverton pits, going to the community pool, playing kickball with his friends. He was always outside. Always playing with his friends, some of which he is still friends with today. Scott also enjoyed Boy Scouts and riding dirt bikes. He was a member of Calverton Baptist church as a child.
Growing up Scott's family traveled a lot on vacation and went camping. They had a sign they posted at each camp site called "Friends Den" they took trips to Fontana Village in North Carolina, Disney World and Niagara Falls, Ocean City and a family trip to the southern most tip of the United States. Each trip was 6 people and a dog in a station wagon. Scott had two family dogs growing up that he talked about often, Lady and Candy. Scott had lady from the time he was born until he was 12 years old. Scott's dad called him Peter Pan because he was always a big kid at heart and excited over all things.
Debbie called him curious George because he was so curious over all things. As a child Scott wanted to be an architect. He also loved forecasting the weather.
Scott loved working and did his first shingle roof at 15 years old. He said he helped a friend for free. Scott was extremely hard-working and loved roofing. He started his own business, Friendly Roofing and Sheet Metal and was very successful. He had an unfortunate fall in 2005, which put him down for a year. Then he decided to join the union. He was an expert in all areas of roofing. Especially, sheet-metal. He called it an art. Scott was a perfectionist in everything he did. He loved to take his truck out during a snowstorm and snowplow and help the community.
Scott adored his kids and grandkids. He taught them all he knew about the Lord and about being an honest, compassionate and hard-working person.
The things Scott loved most was his white Reebok tennis shoes. He wore them all the time for many years and they always had to be bright white. Scott also had a passion for boxing and did some amateur boxing when he was young. He watched every boxing match that he possibly could. Scott also LOVED the Redskins. He was a diehard Redskins fan and enjoyed watching the games with his kids and his sister Deb and nephew Kevin. We had many Redskin parties. Scott always talked about the good old Redskins days back in the 1980s. Scott loved the water and his boat. He dreamed of living on the water one day. He also loved riding his Harley Davidson. In Tennessee he rode the dragon tail with all of his kids. Scott loved jigsaw puzzle's, and playing chess. He was an excellent chess player. Scott was a food connoisseur. He loved good food, especially sweets. Pasta with red sauce was his favorite.
Scott had many, many friends. He was such a social person, always dependable and always willing to help anyone, whether it was a friend, stranger and especially the homeless. No matter where he was he tried to help those less fortunate.
Scott's loved to go on family vacations. Going to Kentucky, riding four- wheelers and visiting his sisters and nieces and nephew.
Scott and Debbie were together 27 years. They were best friends and we're hardly ever apart. They had a deep and eternal love that was taken away much too soon. Scott and Debbie were members of Severna Park Baptist Church where they got baptized together in 2013. They had plans to retire, buy a RV and travel the United States.
Scott was so thoughtful to his family, friends and community. He was an awesome problem solver who could figure out how to solve almost any problem.
Most of all Scott adored his grandkids and wanted to be with them as often as he could.
Scott was a fighter until the very end. He never gave up fighting and put so much living into the last two years after his diagnosis. He went to Disney World, Las Vegas, West Virginia mountains, Niagra Falls, New York City, Ocean City bike week, New Orleans Bourbon Street, Smokey Mountains, Tennessee and several trips to Ocean City. All of his trips were with his family.
Scott loved life so much. He always ended a phone conversation with "I love you" He loved God, family and friends. He felt so blessed by the outpouring of love he received since his diagnosis. Our hearts are broken and he left us much too soon. He was such a special person and he touched everyone he met. He taught us so much. God took him home to heaven to watch over us and we will cherish our memories forever and ever and ever. We love and miss you Gaga to the moon and back. Rest in peace my love!
