Sylvia Marie Beres (Scurti) was born and raised in Baltimore on June 1, 1937, she was 85 years old. Sylvia is the loving daughter of Domenico and Lena Scurti. (Garofalo) She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Eugene Joseph Beres, who departed us on July 26, 1992. Sylvia’s greatest joy was her family. Always a loving mother to her sons, Eugene and wife Fran, Steven and wife Kuang, and Rodney and wife Stacey. If you knew Sylvia, you knew of her grandchildren and all of their accomplishments; Andrew and his wife Marlee, Alex, Tony, Amaya, Adam, her two bonus grandchildren Wade and Meg, along with her great-granddaughter Harper. Sylvia is preceded in death by her older sister Rosalie Mastroianni. She leaves behind younger siblings Michael Scurti, John Scurti, Linda Ford, and Maria Brine, along with favorite cousin Roseanna Bucara and many nieces and nephews. Sylvia grew up in Highlandtown, immersed in the Italian culture of her parents and community. She was a devout Catholic who attended Our Lady of Pompei school and church where she learned to sing and play the piano. She went on to graduate from St. Michael’s Business School in Fells Point. She served as a soloist for all the church’s events. Sylvia, along with her husband, who was also a musician, passed their love for music onto their children and grandchildren. Sylvia retired from First National Bank in 1992. In retirement she took the most pleasure doting on her family. She was always cooking and providing the care and support needed. Sylvia was also a member of the Pasadena Senior Center and the Thursday Bingo club at the VFW on Ft. Smallwood Road.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the family owned and operate and operated MCCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road PASADENA on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm. A funeral Mass will be held in the Our Lady of Hope Church 1727 Lynch Road DUNDALK on Thursday at 10 am. Interment Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery.
After the Interment family and friends are requested to continue Sylvia’s celebration for lunch at Vinny’s Cafe, 6212 Holabird Ave, Baltimore MD 21224. (Additional parking is located across the street.)
