On Saturday, April 10, 2021 Sylvia Joyce Hillman, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 76. Sylvia was born on November 26, 1944 in Australia to Thomas E. & Joyce E. Steinhice (nee Kemp). After she graduated from Seton High School in Baltimore, she spent her career working for the Army at Fort Meade in Maryland and then the Navy at The United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. While working at Ft. Meade, Sylvia met Richard Marshall Hillman and they were married on July 10, 1965.
Sylvia's passion was her family and friends and she loved being a grandmother, The restoration of the Seven Foot Knoll lighthouse, which stands proudly in Baltimore's Inner Harbor was very important to her. Sylvia's grandfather has been a lighthouse keeper in the early 20th century at Seven Foot Knoll. Sylvia was a lifelong reader and enjoyed classic movies in her spare time. Sylvia has been back and forth to Australia several times during her life, and although a proud American, she never forgot her Australian roots.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her mother, Joyce, and her father, Thomas Steinhice. She is survived by her husband Richard, her aunt Catherine Ricketts, her children Thomas Hillman, Jennifer Braland (Steve) and Sean Hillman (Dany) and her grandchildren Robert, John, Cassandra, Joshua and Irulan.
Friends and family are invited to call at the family owned and operated McCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road Pasdena, Maryland 21122 on Wednesday April 14, 2021 from 3-5 & 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday April 15, 2021 at 10 AM at St. Janes Frances de Chantal 8499 Virginia Avenue Pasadena, Maryland 21122. Interment Glen Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in the name of Sylvia J. Hillman to The Alzheimer's Association (see link below)
