Thomas Edward Bowen, Sr., 81, a 52-year resident of Pasadena, died peacefully at BWMC on January 7, 2020 with family at his bedside.
Born in Baltimore on August 4, 1938, he was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas H. and Anne Bowen. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserves from 1958-1964. After retiring from a long career at ADT, he worked another 13 years for the Department of Defense retiring in 2000.
Tom was instrumental in organizing the Havenwood Girls Softball Association and became known to many as “Mr. Tom”. In his younger years, he spent an amazing amount of his time “at the field” coaching softball and cheering on his sons playing baseball. He loved fishing and was an avid gardener of vegetables, especially tomatoes. After retirement, he became a passionate book collector. He also enjoyed photography, going to thrift shops, and spending time with his pugs (Piggy, Peanut and Jelly).
In 1959, Tom married the love of his life, Doris, who survives him. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2019. Tom is also survived by his four children: Terry, Tom Jr., Tina and Scott; his 8 grandchildren: Nicole, Jordan, Jacob, Nick, Drew, Tom III, Steve and Brad; and numerous great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Annamae and Tom Curry along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be dearly missed by all.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the family owned and operated MCCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road PASADENA on Sunday, February 9, 2020 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. A Memorial service will held at 3:00 PM.
