Alice Janine (Turpin) Schultz – known as Janine - age 74, of Pasadena, MD passed away on January 20, 2016 from pneumonia. Janine was born in Monroe, MI on April 5, 1941. She graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1963 with an English major and a Library Science minor. She began teaching English at Walled Lake High School in Michigan. In 1963 Janine married Arthur J. Schultz III and later moved to Atlanta, GA where he was stationed with the U.S. Navy and she taught at Campbell High School. They moved to Richmond, VA in 1974 and their marriage ended in 1980. The remainder of her career was spent as a school librarian. She worked at St. Edwards-Epiphany Catholic School in Midlothian, VA and later at Washington-Henry Elementary School in Hanover, VA where she spent 21 years.
Janine had a great sense of humor and was notorious for sharing her political views. Everyone that knew her has a funny story to tell. Janine was an avid reader, a master seamstress and enjoyed gardening. She loved to watch college basketball and was a dedicated fan of the Duke University basketball team. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and after retiring in 2003, she moved to Pasadena, MD to be close to her family. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and regularly attended their school and sports activities where she often used a cowbell to cheer them on.
Janine is pre-deceased by parents, Claude and Ruth Turpin, her brother Dr. Gil Turpin and her oldest son, Arthur J. Schultz IV. Janine is survived by her sister, Sara Bailey; her children, Adrienne Janine Trout (Mike) and Andrew Jason Schultz (Linda); six grandchildren, Taylor, Marilyn, Darby, George, Alexandra and Addison; and thirteen nieces and nephews.
Her life will be celebrated on Saturday, January 30 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 8615 Fort Smallwood Road, Pasadena, MD. Visitation at 1:30 p.m. and memorial service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
